Project Alternatives
The bridge, transit and highway options under consideration were packaged
into five alternatives for analysis. This effort is required under the
National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and resulted in the publication of
a
Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS).
The following alternatives were
studied for the Draft EIS:
- No build
- Replacement bridge with bus rapid transit
- Replacement bridge with light rail
- Supplemental bridge with bus rapid transit
- Supplemental bridge with light rail
The Draft EIS release on May 2, 2008 started a 60-day public review and
comment period that ended July 1, 2008.
As part of the Draft EIS process, several additional congestion relief
elements were included in each of the “build” alternatives. Each alternative
was thoroughly analyzed to determine how well it relieves congestion and
improves the safety and mobility
problems defined
for I-5.
